I still think this is one of the best series ever. I watch it again every few years, and every single time it leaves me at a loss for words. It’s incredible that this is based on real stories and real people. Plus, there’s an interesting mix of actors and cameos - I’m still noticing people that I hadn’t noticed years before.

Anyways, if you haven’t seen it, watch it; if you’ve already seen it, it’s probably time to watch it again.

Currahee!

The Pacific is good. I am glad I was in Afghanistan VS the Pacific island hopping campaign.

I like the Pacific as well, but it never stuck with me like Band of Brothers did - I’m not exactly sure why that’s the case.

Well the Eagle’s Nest is pretty impressive at the end. I know a guy that was stationed in Germany in the 60's and got to check out all that stuff. He said there were all kinds of Nazi stuff stored in warehouses. They let him take curtains and furniture for his office!

Was just discussing how good both this and The Pacific are with buddies at work today. The Pacific got me personally, as my Grandfather went through that with 2nd Marine (I think). I knew he was on Peleiu, Iwo, Guadalcanal etc, I’d seen the framed insignias in his radio room at home. The series really drove home for me what he had gone through, and presumably why he never spoke a word of it.

I’m also fairly certain his experience in the war played a part in selecting a first book to give my toddler-self: Seuss’s The Butter Battle Book.

I think the only WWII-era stuff I’d want is a Luger pistol and a Garand rifle. Living in Canada would probably prevent those [surely legal] acquisitions.

I’ve seen each BofB at least 25 times as during the mid 2000' when the history channel used to play them everyweekend. Having just basic cable I used to always have it on while doing homework.

While the pacific was good, the first time I watched it I had such a problem telling who was who. That a lot happened at night didn’t help.

Heck, if we’re going to that scale I’d have put some aircraft the list.

If you have not done so, I highly recommend that you read D-Day and Citizen Soldiers . I couldn’t put either of those book down, but I never finished Band of Brothers . The book always seemed to be somewhat of an afterthought to me, but it’s very likely that the film is much stronger. And, IIRC, the TV series took from all of Ambrose’s books. Honestly, I’ve only seen a small bit of it.
